Russian tenor Vsevolod Grivnov studied at the Russian Chorus Academy and at the Russian Music Academy under Professor Byelov.  After having finished his studies he became straightaway  a soloist of the New Opera Company of Moscow’s Municipal Theatre starring in numerous roles over the next three seasons, including Lensky in Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky, Jacopo in Verdi’s “Due Foscari”,  Leicester in “Maria Stuarda” and Bayan in Glinka’s “Ruslan and Ludmilla”.

In the West Mr.Grivnov came to widespread attention in 1995, when he was hailed for his Wexford Festival Performances as Levko in Rimsky-Korsakov’s “May Night” where he was highly praised for his performances, being hailed by critics as the outstanding new voice of the festival.

In the following years he became first a soloist at Nice Opera where he appeared as Fernando (“la Favorita” by Donizetti) and Prince Guidon (the “Golden Cockerel” by Rimsky Korsakov) and later at the Royal Danish Opera where Fenton in “Falstaff”, Don Ottavio and Chevalier de la force (“Dialogues des Carmelites” by Poulenc) were among his roles. In the same period he did sing also Fenton at New Israeli Opera and at Teatro Comunale di Bologna. He also made his debut at Opera de Paris in a concert of Stravinsky’s “Le Rossignol” and “Le Renard” with Natalie Dessay  under the baton of James Conlon (with CD and DVD recording) and with the London Philharmonic Orchestra as Levko in a concert performance of “May Night” conducted by Mark Elder.

Since 2000 he is a soloist at the Bolshoi Theater where he appeared in such roles as Count Vaudemont (“Iolanta” by Tchaikovsky), Lensky (“Eugene Onegin”by Tchaikovsky), Maurizio (“Adriana Lecouvreur”by Cilea), Andrei (“Mazeppa” by Tchaikovsky), Riccardo (“Un Ballo in Mascherа” by Verdi), Ismaele (“Nabucco” by Verdi), Fenton (“Falstaff” by Vedi), Anatole Kuragin (“War and Peace” by Prokofiev), Don Jose (“Carmen” by Bizet) Prince Yuri (“The Enchantress” by Tchaikovsky), The Pretender (“Boris Godunov” by Musorgsky) and the tenor part in Verdi’s Requiem.

In 2000 he also sang the title role in OEDIPUS REX at the Teatro Wielki in Poland (where the Polish Newspaper “The Tribune” wrote that he sounded like a young Domingo) and also at the Granada Festival in Valencia, Bilbao and Barcelona, folloiawed by PETITE MESSE SOLONELLE with the Netherlands Chamber Choir, Shostakovich’s Songs from Jewish Folk Poetry with the Baltimore Symphony  Orchestra under Yuri Temirkanov and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra conducted by Michael Tilson-Thomas. He also furthered his work at the Bastille with Kuragin (WAR and Peace) and The Innocent in Boris Godunov and recently with great success Golitzin in “Chovanshchina” by Musorgsky.

Engagements in the past include Alfredo (“La Traviata” by Verdi) at Deutsche Oper and Polish National Opera Warsaw, Riccardo (“Un Ballo in Mascherа” by Verdi) at Marijinsky Theater, Macduff at Staatsoper Berlin, Edinburgh Festival and Marjinskii Theater,  Radames (“Aida” by Verdi) and Alvaro (“Il Forza del Destino” by Verdi) at Cologne Opera under the baton of Will Humburg, directed by Olivier PY, Don José ( “ Carmen” by Bizet) at Savonllinna Festival and Teatro Massimo Catania again with Will Humburg, Dmitri in “Boris Godunov “ by Musorgsky at Houston Grand Opera, Los Angeles Opera, La Monnaie Brussels, Opéra National du Rhin Strasbourg, Teatro Real Madrid, San Francisco Opera and Teatro communale Bologna, Lensky( “ Eugene Onegin” by Tchaikovsky at La Scala, Los Angeles Opera (conlon,) Deutsche Oper and Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Vakula (in Cherevichki by Tchikovsky) at La Scala and Convent Garden London, here directed by Francesca Zambello, Andrej (“Opritshnik” by Thcaikovsky) at Teatro Lirico di Cagliari under the baton of G.Roshdestvensky, directed by Graham Vick, Zinovi and Sergej (“Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” by Shostakovich) at San Francisco Opera with D.Runnicles directed by J. Schaaf, at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino with J.Conlon directed by Lev Dodin and at New Israeli Opera, Albert (“The Miserly Knight” by Rachmaninov) at Teatro Sao Carlos in Lisbon and Teneriffe Opera, Andrei in “Mazeppa” at Opera Ireland, Don Antonio in “Betrothal in a Monastery” by Prokoffiev at Glyndebourne Festival and Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia. He did sing the princes  in both “Rusalkas”, the one more famous by Dvorak in Nice and the other by Dargomizhsky  with the of the WDR-Orchestra, Cologne under the baton of Michail Jurovsky (broadcasted and recorded on CD).

Fedosseev and in Alice Tully Hall New York, Rachmaninovs THE BELLS with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, at the BBC Proms in London both conducted by Vladimir Jurowski, in Birmingham  under the baton of V. FAUST by Schnittke with the Orchestra Verdi Milan conducted by Vladimir Jurowski, Walpurgisnacht by Mendelssohn in Pamplona,” Missa solemnis” in Parma and Bologna with Rudolf Barshai. Opera Galas in Jurmalaa, Dresden and in 2013 several Verdi-Galas have been also on Mr. Grivnovs calendar.

Upcoming perfomances are among others “Mazeppa” at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, “the Miserly Knight” with London Symphony, “Carmen” at the Bolshoi and some concerts in Philadelphia.
