On the 20th and 21st of March 2015, Cantacuzino Castle will  host the 5th Edition of the extraordinary event Prahova Classic Nights. Will perform three internationally renowned stars of the State Academic Bolshoi Theater from Moscow. Special Guest of the event is the pianist Eduard Kunz.

The program will contain famous classical arias created by Russian, Italian and French composers. Each day of concert  will have a different program.

Soprano

Graduated Novosibirsk State Conservatory in the class of prof. Lumanovski N.I. Then High School of Music in Karlsruhe (Germany) in the class of prof. Maria Venuti.

Her debut on stage took place at  Milan's Piccolo Teatro as Fiordiligi of "Così fan tutte" by Mozart. That was the last work of the famous Italian stage director Giorgio Strehler. A performance had a huge success not only in Italy, but also during the tour in Germany, France, Spain, Russia and Japan.

The year 2000 was momentous for the Ms. Gvazava when sang Violetta in the famous film - opera "La Traviata in Paris", where her partner was José Cura ( Alfredo) and Rolando Panerai ( Germon) , conducted by Zubin Mehta. This broadcast live on ТВ seen more then millions of viewers in more than 140 countries worldwide. From that moment Ms Gvazava began an international career of the singer.

To her the best operatic are roles include

Fiordiligi, Countess, Donna Anna by Mozart; Mimi, Liu, Puccini by Puccini; Rusalka by Dvorak, Tatiana by Tchaikovsky. She works in famous theaters in Europe and the world under such conductors as Claudio Abbado, Zubin Mehta, Kirill Petrenko, Tate Jeffrey, Marco Armiliato, Christian Arming, Gustav Kuhn.

Tenor

Russian tenor Vsevolod Grivnov studied at the Russian Chorus Academy and at the Russian Music Academy under Professor Byelov.  After having finished his studies he became straightaway  a soloist of the New Opera Company of Moscow’s Municipal Theatre starring in numerous roles over the next three seasons, including Lensky in Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky, Jacopo in Verdi’s “Due Foscari”,  Leicester in “Maria Stuarda” and Bayan in Glinka’s “Ruslan and Ludmilla”.

In the West Mr.Grivnov came to widespread attention in 1995, when he was hailed for his Wexford Festival Performances as Levko in Rimsky-Korsakov’s “May Night” where he was highly praised for his performances, being hailed by critics as the outstanding new voice of the festival.

In the following years he became first a soloist at Nice Opera where he appeared as Fernando (“la Favorita” by Donizetti) and Prince Guidon (the “Golden Cockerel” by Rimsky Korsakov) and later at the Royal Danish Opera where Fenton in “Falstaff”, Don Ottavio and Chevalier de la force (“Dialogues des Carmelites” by Poulenc) were among his roles. In the same period he did sing also Fenton at New Israeli Opera and at Teatro Comunale di Bologna. He also made his debut at Opera de Paris in a concert of Stravinsky’s “Le Rossignol” and “Le Renard” with Natalie Dessay  under the baton of James Conlon (with CD and DVD recording) and with the London Philharmonic Orchestra as Levko in a concert performance of “May Night” conducted by Mark Elder.

Since 2000 he is a soloist at the Bolshoi Theater where he appeared in such roles as Count Vaudemont (“Iolanta” by Tchaikovsky), Lensky (“Eugene Onegin”by Tchaikovsky), Maurizio (“Adriana Lecouvreur”by Cilea), Andrei (“Mazeppa” by Tchaikovsky), Riccardo (“Un Ballo in Mascherа” by Verdi), Ismaele (“Nabucco” by Verdi), Fenton (“Falstaff” by Vedi), Anatole Kuragin (“War and Peace” by Prokofiev), Don Jose (“Carmen” by Bizet) Prince Yuri (“The Enchantress” by Tchaikovsky), The Pretender (“Boris Godunov” by Musorgsky) and the tenor part in Verdi’s Requiem.

In 2000 he also sang the title role in OEDIPUS REX at the Teatro Wielki in Poland (where the Polish Newspaper “The Tribune” wrote that he sounded like a young Domingo) and also at the Granada Festival in Valencia, Bilbao and Barcelona, folloiawed by PETITE MESSE SOLONELLE with the Netherlands Chamber Choir, Shostakovich’s Songs from Jewish Folk Poetry with the Baltimore Symphony  Orchestra under Yuri Temirkanov and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra conducted by Michael Tilson-Thomas. He also furthered his work at the Bastille with Kuragin (WAR and Peace) and The Innocent in Boris Godunov and recently with great success Golitzin in “Chovanshchina” by Musorgsky.

 

Engagements in the past include Alfredo (“La Traviata” by Verdi) at Deutsche Oper and Polish National Opera Warsaw, Riccardo (“Un Ballo in Mascherа” by Verdi) at Marijinsky Theater, Macduff at Staatsoper Berlin, Edinburgh Festival and Marjinskii Theater,  Radames (“Aida” by Verdi) and Alvaro (“Il Forza del Destino” by Verdi) at Cologne Opera under the baton of Will Humburg, directed by Olivier PY, Don José ( “ Carmen” by Bizet) at Savonllinna Festival and Teatro Massimo Catania again with Will Humburg, Dmitri in “Boris Godunov “ by Musorgsky at Houston Grand Opera, Los Angeles Opera, La Monnaie Brussels, Opéra National du Rhin Strasbourg, Teatro Real Madrid, San Francisco Opera and Teatro communale Bologna, Lensky( “ Eugene Onegin” by Tchaikovsky at La Scala, Los Angeles Opera (conlon,) Deutsche Oper and Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Vakula (in Cherevichki by Tchikovsky) at La Scala and Convent Garden London, here directed by Francesca Zambello, Andrej (“Opritshnik” by Thcaikovsky) at Teatro Lirico di Cagliari under the baton of G.Roshdestvensky, directed by Graham Vick, Zinovi and Sergej (“Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” by Shostakovich) at San Francisco Opera with D.Runnicles directed by J. Schaaf, at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino with J.Conlon directed by Lev Dodin and at New Israeli Opera, Albert (“The Miserly Knight” by Rachmaninov) at Teatro Sao Carlos in Lisbon and Teneriffe Opera, Andrei in “Mazeppa” at Opera Ireland, Don Antonio in “Betrothal in a Monastery” by Prokoffiev at Glyndebourne Festival and Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia. He did sing the princes  in both “Rusalkas”, the one more famous by Dvorak in Nice and the other by Dargomizhsky  with the of the WDR-Orchestra, Cologne under the baton of Michail Jurovsky (broadcasted and recorded on CD).

Vsevolod Grivnov ‘s concert activity is also very worth to be mentioned: B Minor Mass by Bach with the Orchestra of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo conducted by Maestro Barshai , PULCINELLA with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and Michael Tilson-Thomas, Shostakovich’s SIX ROMANCES ON TEXTS BY JAPANESE POETS in Venice, musikverein temirkanov jewish,  Rachmaninov’s “FRANCESCA DA RIMINI “with the Orchestra Sao Paolo de Brazil and J.Nashling, at Wiener Musikverein with V. Fedosseev and in Alice Tully Hall New York, Rachmaninovs THE BELLS with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, at the BBC Proms in London both conducted by Vladimir Jurowski, in Birmingham  under the baton of V. Sinaisky, and at the Schleswig Holstein Festival under Pletniov, Verdi’s “Requiem” with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Gulbenkian Foundation, in Rotterdam and at Marjinskji Theater, “Stabat Mater” by Rossini again with Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisboa, Stravinskij’s  “Les Noces” with the RIAS Kammerchor in Berlin (recorded by Harmonia Mundi) and again at the BBC Proms with Edward Gardner and the London Sinfonietta. FAUST by Schnittke with the Orchestra Verdi Milan conducted by Vladimir Jurowski, Walpurgisnacht by Mendelssohn in Pamplona,” Missa solemnis” in Parma and Bologna with Rudolf Barshai. Opera Galas in Jurmalaa, Dresden and in 2013 several Verdi-Galas have been also on Mr. Grivnovs calendar.

Upcoming perfomances are among others “Mazeppa” at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, “the Miserly Knight” with London Symphony, “Carmen” at the Bolshoi and some concerts in Philadelphia.

Mezzo soprano

Margarita Mamsirova, the owner of the wonderful wide-ranging voice - mezzo-soprano coloratura. The wide range of her voice coupled with an astonishing technique allows Margarita to conquer her audience’s heart while singing from the soul.

 Guest soloist of  Bolshoi Theatre  of  Moscow since 2002 .  Her repertoire  the following roles : Olga (“Eugene  Onegin”) , Polina  (“Dame of spades” ) by Tchaikovsky, Carmen ( “ Carmen”) by Bizet), Susuki (“Madama Butterfly”) by Puccini, Angelina (“La Cenerentola”), Isabella (“Italiana di Algeri”) Rosina (“The Barber of Seville) by Rossini), Dalila (“Samson e Dalila” ) by Saint-Saens, Preziosilla  (“Forza del destino” ) by Verdi etc.

She collaborated with such famous conductors as  Garri  Bertini, Alberto Zedda, Valery Gergiev, Alexander Vedernikov, Vasili Sinaisky , Alan Buribayev ect.. And famouse stage directos as Dm. Cherhiakov, Carlos Padrisa, Francesca Zambella, Marek Weiss etc..

Pianist

Born in Omsk, Siberia, Eduard studied with Mikhail Khokhlov at the Gnessin Special School for Gifted Children and with Andrei Diev at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and gained his Postgraduate Diploma with Distinction as well as the Gold Medal for performance from the Royal Northern College of Music studying with Norma Fisher and late Mark Ray.

 

Named among tomorrow’s 10 great pianists by the BBC Music Magazine, Eduard Kunz has performed and broadcast frequently with many major European orchestras including BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Royal Scottish National Orchestra, The Hallé and The Ulster Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Welsh National Opera Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and London Musici, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin at the Berlin Philharmonie, The Philharmonia Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, Orkest van het Oosten, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Szczecin, Olstyn and Pomeranian Philharmonic Orchestras, George Enescu Philharmonic, Braunschweig Symphony, Russian National Orchestra and the Orchestra of Moscow Capella  with conductors such as Tugan Sokhiev, Alexander Joel, Christian Mandeal, Edward Gardner, Gerard Schwarz, Lothar Koenigs, Garry Walker, Clark Rundell, Mark Stephenson, Alejandro Posada, Pavel Kotla, Josep Caballe Domenech, Warcislav Kunc, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Barry Wordsworth, Piotr Sulkovsky, David Angus and Mikhail Khokhlov amongst others. Recital appearances include the Wigmore Hall in London, Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, Louvre in Paris, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Winterthur hall in Barcelona, Big Hall of Moscow Conservatoire the prestigious Duszniki and December Nights festivals, Festivals of lago di Garda , Grieg (Oslo), Al Bustan (Lebanon), New York Keyboard Festival and St Magnus (Scotland) and City of London Festivals.

Eduard’s performances have been broadcast on major classical stations including BBC Radio 3, Radio France , Radio Rai, RNE , Deutschland Radio Kultur and Orpheus.

 

His stage parners include Sol Gabetta, Boris Andrianov, Vagram Sarajian, Patricija Kopachinskaja, Andrey Baranov, Kirill Trousov, Julian Rachlin and Alexandru Tomescu.

 

Last season highlights included debut performances with the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra as well as with St Petersburg Orchestra of State Capella, the Armenian Philharmonic,  Bucharest Symphony and the Warsaw Philharmonic orchestras as well as solo recitals at the Grand Hall of Moscow Conservatoire, Milan's Sala Verdi, Atlanta and Georgia States and for Dubai Concert series.

 

Appearances of 14/15 season include a debut with Orchestra di Padova in Milan and Padova, debut with Gdansk Philharmonic ,debut chamber performances with Vilde Frang and Laszlo Fenyo in Dortmund and Budapest, solo debuts at the Tokyo’s Musashino Shimin Bunka Kaikan, Kyoto's concert hall, Poland's Lublin and Moldova's Chisinau . Following the success of recent tour of Romania with Alexandru Tomescu with all Prokofiev programm, Eduard and Alexanrdu will embark on complete Enescu works for violin and piano tour Spring 2015 .

 

Eduard's recent live recording with works of Scarlatti,Beethoven, Schubert and Paderewski is out on both reel tape and a CD on  Openreel Records. Recording of complete Prokofiev works for violin and piano with Alexandru Tomescu is due out in December 2014.

 

Eduard awards include 13 first prizes of major contests including Grand Prix of Enescu Competition in Bucharest and Gold Medals at both New Orleans and Paderewski competitions. Other awards included Silver medal from The Worshipful Company of Musicians in London, awards from Hattori and Musical Foundations, Dame Myra Hess award and Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe as well as Spivakov Foundation and the “Richter” award from the Rostropovich Foundation in Moscow. 

 

Eduard is a Moscow Philharmonic Society Artist, Verbier Festival laureate, a former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist and a Global Yamaha Artist. Eduard lives in Bucharest with his wife and daughter.
